Our Responsibility for Sustainable Craftsmanship

Dermis Design takes pride in ensuring that customers not only look their best but also feel confident knowing that every material and process behind our collections is carefully considered. With a strong focus on ethical sourcing and craftsmanship, we prioritize quality and sustainability in every step of our creation process.

Responsible Production & Inventory Policy

Dermis Design started as a made-to-order brand and continues to embrace a minimal-inventory model. This just-in-time production strategy ensures that manufacturing aligns directly with customer demand, preventing overproduction. By keeping the supply chain efficient and reducing excess stock, the brand minimizes waste while maintaining a strong focus on high-quality craftsmanship. This method also reinforces its commitment to artisanal techniques, ensuring that every piece is carefully crafted with attention to detail.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

By maintaining a lean inventory, we actively prevent overproduction, minimize waste, and reduce our environmental footprint. Our just-in-time production model eliminates the need for large storage facilities, lowering energy consumption for heating, cooling, and lighting while also cutting down emissions from excessive transportation and warehousing. We prioritize high-quality, responsibly sourced leather, ensuring exceptional durability and long-lasting wear. As a luxury brand rooted in craftsmanship, we emphasize artistry over mass production, collaborating with a renowned atelier in India with over 30 years of experience to preserve the rich tradition of leather and shearling craftsmanship.

Leather Working Group Certification

  • We source our leather exclusively from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified suppliers, ensuring adherence to ethical and environmentally responsible practices within the leather industry. LWG certification involves a comprehensive assessment of suppliers, evaluating key factors such as waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation, and chemical usage to promote sustainability. By partnering with LWG-certified suppliers, we reinforce our commitment to responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship, and reducing our ecological footprint.
  • Additionally, LWG certification mandates strict industry compliance, including supply chain traceability, which guarantees transparency regarding the origin of raw materials. Certified suppliers must also adhere to responsible chemical management practices, minimizing potential risks to both human health and the environment. This certification provides assurance to consumers and stakeholders that our leather production aligns with the highest sustainability standards.

Animal Welfare Policy

Commitment to Ethical Sourcing

Dermis Design is dedicated to ethical, social, and environmental responsibility, ensuring that all animal-derived materials are sourced with the highest welfare standards. The brand recognizes that sustainable development and ethical sourcing go hand in hand, reinforcing its commitment to biodiversity and environmental preservation.

Responsible Supply Chain

Dermis Design upholds strict ethical standards across its supply chain. The Animal Welfare Policy (“Policy”) sets clear guidelines on responsible sourcing, ensuring humane treatment of animals. This policy applies to materials such as fine leathers (including exotic species), wild species, sheep, goats, bovine species, and calves.

The Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare

Dermis Design requires suppliers to follow the internationally recognized Five Freedoms, established by the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council in 1979:

  • Freedom from Hunger & Thirst – Access to a nutritious diet.
  • Freedom from Discomfort – A suitable living environment.
  • Freedom from Pain, Injury & Disease – Proper medical care and prevention.
  • Freedom to Express Normal Behavior – Space, facilities, and social interaction.
  • Freedom from Fear & Distress – Stress-free and humane treatment.

Compliance & Ethical Standards

  • All raw materials must come from countries with strict regulations on animal welfare.
  • Suppliers must disclose species details and country of origin.
  • For CITES-listed species, full compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) is required.
  • Adherence to national and international laws, certifications, and ethical standards is mandatory.

Industry Collaboration

  • Dermis Design collaborates with certification bodies and industry partners to promote responsible tanning practices and improve animal welfare across its supply chain.
  • By implementing this policy, Dermis Design ensures ethical, sustainable, and responsible sourcing practices that align with its core values.
